FAQ
Taking the first step toward counselling can feel both hopeful and uncertain. You might have questions about how it works, what to expect, or whether it is the right fit for you. This page is here to offer some clarity by answering a few common questions, so that you can feel a little more informed as you consider starting. If there is anything else you would like to know, you are welcome to get in touch.

How long will I need counselling?
The duration of counselling varies for each person. Some clients find a few sessions sufficient, while others prefer ongoing support over a longer period. Together, we’ll regularly review your progress and decide what works best for you.
What if I feel nervous about starting counselling?
It’s natural to feel a bit anxious about beginning counselling. Many clients share similar feelings at the start. My role is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can feel comfortable expressing yourself at your own pace.
Can I decide what to talk about in sessions?
Absolutely. The sessions are guided by your needs and what feels most important to you. There’s no pressure to talk about anything you’re not ready to share.
What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?
I understand that life can be unpredictable. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide at least 48 hours’ notice. Sessions canceled with less notice may incur the full fee, but I will try to accommodate rescheduling when possible.
What if I need urgent help between sessions?
While counselling can provide significant support, I’m not able to offer crisis services. If you need urgent help, please contact your GP, a local mental health service, or an emergency hotline.
Can I try one session before committing?
Yes. I offer a free 20 minute online consultation so that you can get a sense of me and ask any questions you may have. If it feels appropriate to continue, we can then arrange a first full 50 minute session at £45. After this, standard 50 minute sessions are £65. There is no obligation to continue after the consultation or first session.
Do you work with specific age groups?
I primarily work with adults and young adults. If you’re seeking counselling for someone outside this range, feel free to contact me, and I can help guide you to appropriate resources.
What kind of issues do you work with?
I provide support for a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, bereavement (including suicide loss), cultural identity, life transitions, and more. If you’re unsure if your concerns fit, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Can I contact you between sessions?
You’re welcome to email me with brief updates or questions between sessions. However, in-depth discussions are best saved for our scheduled time together.
Do you offer therapy in other languages?
I offer counselling in both English and Mandarin. Some people choose to work mainly in one language, others move between the two. We can use whichever language feels most natural and emotionally accurate for you.
Do you offer lower rates for those on a limited income?
I understand that financial situations vary, and I strive to make counselling accessible. I may be able to offer a reduced rate for individuals with limited income. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to discuss this further.
